IN AGES PAST

1828 Plymouth was part of the Huron Circuit. Services were held in school houses and private residences of the area.
1834 Creation of the Plymouth Circuit.
1848 The building site on Church Street purchased for $75 from E. J. Penniman. Construction began with the timber from the Durfre Farm brought to Mr. Roe’s residence where it was framed and then transported to the site and completed.
1874 The church was remodeled. Rooms were added at the rear.  Also added were stained windows, a furnace and a tower on the corner of the church.
1892 First bell in the tower rang.
1902 Pipe Organ installed through efforts of Ladies Furnishing Society.
1914 Sunday School rooms added and other necessities for $9,000.
1916 March 30th - Fire started in the adjacent school. Leveled the church.
1917 April 5 - Dedication of rebuilt church. Building cost $20,000.
1923 Pipe Organ installed.
1924 Gymnasium added.
1951 Remodeling of the chancel area.
1966 Gymnasium converted into Fellowship Hall and church school rooms.
1966 A relocation site was chosen. Fifteen acres of new property on the south side of North Territorial Rd. was purchased
1970 December 6 - Ground breaking ceremonies.
1971 June 13 - Cornerstone put into place.
  August - Raising of the steeple.
1972 March 5 - Consecration by the Bishop and Open House
  Nov. - Organ with 1,449 pipes installed and dedicated.
1975 Another rank added to the organ.
1978 Observance of the sesquicentennial of the Methodist Church in Plymouth.
1988 First Church breaks ground for $3.2 Million Expansion
1989 Moved into new administrative wing
1990 April 8 - Moved from the old sanctuary into the new 600 seat sanctuary.
  October 14 - Formal dedication of the expanded church
1991 May - New Zimmer Pipe Organ installed. Sanctuary, Library, Choir Room & Parlor air-conditioned
1999 Forward in Faithfulness Capital Fund Campaign to reduce mortgage.
2001 Mortgage paid
2003 Basement finished.
2005 Pipes added to the Organ from special endowment.
